    It is an international information system that informs people of action that should or

     should not be taken if these signs are encountered. 



     There are 4 different categories applicable to your health and safety:

Wearing variously colored ribbons is a symbolic action that shows support for certain campaigns.

A symbol is a mark, sign, or a word that indicates, signifies, or it is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship. Symbols allow people to go beyond what is known or seen by creating linkages between otherwise very different concepts and experiences. All communication (and data processing) is achieved through the use of symbols. Symbols take the form of words, sounds, gestures, ideas, or visual images and are used to convey other ideas and beliefs. For example, a red octagon is a common symbol for "STOP"; on maps, blue lines often represent rivers; and a red rose often symbolizes love and compassion. Numerals are symbols for numbers; letters of an alphabet may be symbols for certain phonemes; and personal names are symbols representing individuals. The variable 'x', in a mathematical equation, may symbolize the position of a particle in space.[citation needed]

The academic study of symbols is semiotics. In cartography, an organized collection of symbols forms a legend for a map.

  CONVEYOR BELT- SAFETY DEVICES Safety device means a type of safeguard consisting of an arrangement of operating controls which ensures that a worker cannot access or be in a hazardous area while a machine is operating.     SAFETY GUARDS: Safety guard means a type of safeguard consisting of a physical barrier which prevents a worker from reaching over, under, around or through the barrier to a moving part or point of operation.   The following photos are an indication of such guards.                                                 PULL SWITCHES: The pull wire is pulled to trip the conveyer. It must only be pulled for emergencies and not to stop the belt. If the conveyor belt suddenly trips do not start the belt, communicate with the control room operator and the belt foreman, inspect the area and confirm with all before resetting a pull switch.   OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY REPRESENTATIVES   Section 29: Election and appointment of Representatives:   a)   Employees at a designated working place may elect from among themselves health and safety representatives.   b)   Employees at the mine may elect from among themselves any full-time Health and Safety Representative that may be agreed or determined in terms of the conditions contained in the Health and Safety Agreement.   c)   Elections referred to in (a) and (b) above must be conducted in the prescribed manner.   d)   Employees elected as Health and Safety Representatives must be appointed by the Employer as prescribed in the Health and Safety Agreement.   Duration of Health and Safety Representative Appointment:   a) Term of office of Health and Safety Representative (or alternate) will be two  years.   After being appointed, an H&S Rep (and his alternate) will remain in office, until:   a) Term of office elapse , where upon, he may be re-elected and re-appointed.
